If you choose to continue your education into the summer months, we encourage you to consider the summer sessions at Dickinson College or Franklin and Marshall College. These institutions participate in the Central Pennsylvania Consortium, and transfer of credit is ensured. Courses taken at other accredited colleges or universities may also transfer under certain circumstances.
For full details about registering for summer courses as well as successfully transferring credit, please visit the Registrar's website on Summer School.
Financial Aid for Summer Courses
While loans are the only form of financial assistance available for the summer, there are still several ways for a student to deal with summer costs.
All students should review their eligibility for additional assistance for the current academic year. Borrowing against the cost of attendance for the current year, rather than summer costs, provides funds in a timely manner and does not impact the amount available for the upcoming academic year. Funds would be fully disbursed before the end of the current year, and are not contingent on the number of courses taken during the summer. If you have remaining eligibility for the year and would like to take advantage of this option, please contact the Office of Financial Aid before the end of April.
For those students who will be enrolled at least half-time (1.5 courses) for the summer, a Federal Stafford Loan, Federal PLUS Loan or Alternative Loan may be an option. If a Stafford loan is taken for the summer, the amount available for the upcoming academic year will be reduced. Such a reduction does not apply to a PLUS loan or an Alternative Loan.
Finally, if you are enrolling in only one course for the summer, an Alternative Loan that does not require half-time enrollment could be an option. Funds would be disbursed in a single installment and would not affect the amount that could be borrowed for the next academic year. To get started, enter "alternative education loans" into any of the various search engines on the web.
If you have any questions or would like any assistance in this process, please visit the Financial Aid website or email email@example.com.
