Experience, the saying goes, is often the best teacher, and that's why at Gettysburg we surround you with opportunities to gain hands-on, real-world experience in career fields that interest you.

When you take part in an internship, a short-term externship, or some other experiential program you become engaged in a meaningful way in a professional workplace environment, find out what you like (or don't) about a particular career path, and develop important contacts that can lead to good jobs after graduation.

• Job Shadowing: One-day experiences in which students shadow alumni or parent volunteers in the workplace as they go about their day's work. Offered over winter break; applications available every November.
• Externships: Intensive, typically one-week "deep dives" into a workplace environment, offering in-depth insight into job and life demands of a career in the student's field of interest. Offered in the summer; applications available every February.
• Internships: Short-term work and learning experiences in a professional workplace environment. Typically part-time during the semester or part- or full-time in the summer.

• Expense Reimbursement Request Form:  Use this form to file for reimbursement for expenses related to summer internships, externships, job shadowing, networking dinners and career immersion trips (note:  summer internships and career immersion trips require prior approval - the deadline for summer internship funding requests was April 20).
