Chaplain

We protect time and space for worship at Gettysburg College so that this community may integrate the deep resources of faith, wisdom, and reason with the ever-expanding knowledge gained in the classroom, laboratory, and life. Our mission is to assist this community of learning in exercising and contemplating life with God.

Every Sunday

Every Sunday morning (while classes are in session) we celebrate Holy Communion.  As an institution of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), we practice Eucharistic hospitality.  Ecumenically, ELCA Lutherans have inter-communion agreements with the Presbyterians, United Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Church of the Brethren, Moravians, Methodists, Episcopal, and Anglican communities.  All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion at the 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning worship led by the Chaplain of the College, an ordained (ELCA) Evangelical Lutheran Church in America pastor,  Additionally, Quaker services are held every Sunday morning in Glatfelter Lodge and Hillel schedules Shabbat meals and Holy Day remembrances.

Mass Offered

Ministry is provided to Catholic students and staff through a Roman Catholic priest and a Catholic laywoman Campus Minister.  Mass is offering Sundays at 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays at 12:15p.m.  Learn more

Faith/Spirituality exploration

As a college affiliated with the ELCA, we cherish faith and freedom of inquiry.  We welcome students of all beliefs and provide them opportunities to explore religious and spiritual issues as part of their formation in faith.  We do this with the spirit of openness, reason, and tolerance; while at the same time remaining faithful to the lived confessional practices, worship, and mission of the Lutheran.
