New students

Welcome to New Students!

By now I imagine you're excited about the challenge of college and living on your own in a new place. As your prepare yourself, I wanted to be among the first to welcome you. I also want to share information with you regarding the ministry provided by the Chaplain of the College and Catholic Campus Ministry.

Gettysburg College is concerned with the spiritual as well as intellectual development of her students. As a college affiliated with the Lutheran church,* the Chaplain of the College and Catholic Campus Ministry team assist the College in the integration of faith and learning. Our hope is to foster a vision of the world as a global community. In addition to pastoral care, prayer and worship, retreats and days of reflection, we provide opportunities that will enlarge learning, promote discovery and contribute to making the world and this place better.

A service of Word and Sacrament for the College community is offered at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Chapel every Sunday while classes are in session. Mass for the Roman Catholic community is offered on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. and Tuesdays at 12:15 p.m.  Other opportunities for worship are offered at Friday Noon and on Holy Days. 

Our focus is on the entire person as we explore together our life with God. Anyone who belongs to the College community is welcome to participate in any of our events. The Chaplain of the College, along with his Roman Catholic Campus Ministry associates, serves as pastor to the entire college community. If you need something, don't be afraid to stop in to our offices.  Drop by and introduce yourself. Our offices are on the lower level of Christ Chapel, or may be reached by dialing extension 6280 on campus, or 717/337-6280.

If one of the Chaplains is not available, the office administrator will be happy to assist you in arranging an appointment.

* Gettysburg College is the oldest institution of higher learning established by Lutherans in North America. The College is an institution of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Chaplain of the College is an ordained Lutheran pastor. Everyone is welcome to talk with the Chaplain or participate in worship or any of the events dealing with the spiritual life of the College.
