Stella Hongola grew up in Germany and Austria and completed her undergraduate studies in psychology at Webster University in Vienna, Austria. She pursued a graduate education and clinical work in psychology in the United Kingdom and California before completing her doctorate in clinical psychology at the George Washington University. Prior to her staff psychologist position at Gettysburg College Counseling Services, Dr. Hongola gained clinical psychology experience in a variety of settings, including several university counseling centers, community mental health centers, and an in-home program for children with developmental disorders. Her theoretical orientation is integrative, drawing predominately on psychodynamic and process-oriented approaches and some CBT techniques. In her clinical work, Dr. Hongola seeks to create a safe and accepting space in which students feel encouraged to gain a better understanding of themselves. Her clinical interests include exploring and deepening the understanding of one's experience of self and interpersonal relationships, addressing questions related to identity development, and constructing meaning in life.
