Overview:
For thirty years, the media has perpetuated the stereotype that HIV/AIDS only affects gay men and drug users. HIV/AIDS is affecting individuals of all lifestyles. AIDS knows no race, creed, sexual orientation, gender, class, or age. The face of AIDS is all humankind.

Participants of the NYC project will have the opportunity to serve with and to get to know both providers and clients in a very direct way. The group will explore the issues raised and responses to AIDS. They will have an opportunity to reflect upon their experiences and bring those reflections back to campus.

The Momentum AIDS Project

Momentum AIDS Project is one of New York's largest and most important AIDS service agencies. Momentum operates programs out of neighborhood sites in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens. At each location, clients receive a meal and pantry bag, as well as supportive services such as nutrition classes, support groups, and peer programs. Momentum also links clients to vital outside services. Volunteers are a mainstay of Momentum's services. They prepare and serve meals, pack food bags, and set up and clean up of dining areas.

United Nations

Participants will visit the United Nations, where the global community debates such issues as war, human rights, humanitarian aid, and international law.
