A Breif Overview...
This group will spend time developing a new rock climbing site in Western Maryland as well as learning the basics of rock climbing and camping at a site near the area. There will be climbs ranging in all levels of difficulty, providing opportunities for climbers of all abilities. Our trip will visit the Fork Run Recreation Area in western Maryland, with sponsorship with the Adventure Sport Center International. This is newly developed climbing area that the ASCI is looking to promote. Our trip will spend time climbing the incredible routes that range from 5.4-5.11 and will also learn about access issues by helping to develop campsite locations and clear and clean the climbing area.
The area is quartzite conglomerate; intermixed with sandstone. There are currently 8-10 sport routes that are very sturdy and clean. During this experience you will learn about rock site management, climbing techniques, belay systems and basic anchor systems. In addition, the group will become knowledgeable about local access issues and environmental concerns as it pertains to sustainable climbing.
General Information
During this trip, the group will be self contained, meaning they will camp in tents and will cook their own food on stoves. This is a backcountry experience with limited access to facilities.
