Kayaking & Chesapeake Impact - Fishing Bay WMA, MD $430.00
A Brief Overview...
The shallow, protected waterways of the Chesapeake Bay on the eastern shore of Maryland create a beautiful environment for kayaking. The group will spend four days kayaking in and around the Fishing bay. The Fishing Bay WMA is managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Wildlife and Heritage Division to conserve wildlife and provide for wildlife-dependent recreation.
The result has been the restoration and conservation of a nearly pristine salt marsh habitat that supports wildlife species characteristic of the lower Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. With development encroaching on the area and pollution being dumped into the waterways, the Chesapeake Bay is threaten watershed.
During this trip, the group will focus on the skills of kayaking to help provide them the means to maneuver around this sensitive watershed. You will learn the paddling techniques to manage a sea kayak while learning about the preservation and protection of this pristine coastal area. Since Gettysburg is part of the Chesapeake watershed, we believe that understanding how your impact here on campus can affect the waters many miles away.
General Information
During this trip, the group will be self contained, meaning they will camp in tents and will cook their own food on stoves. This trip will have access to facilities and will also use the vehicles to transport the kayaks on certain days.
