The Gettysburg Recreational Adventure Board (GRAB) is the student programming entity of the office. The students are charged with facilitating experiences for the campus community, alumni, and parents. The students have the unique experience to initiate, design, and facilitate their own programs to our domestic and international locations.
The Leadership Profile of GRAB Facilitators
- Twenty four student facilitators responsible for the vision, development, logistics, and implementation of 45 wilderness based programs a year, and 50 challenge course workshops annually.
- All current staff members have their Rope 1 Technician Certification via Bruce Smith, WFR certification via Wilderness Medical Associates, and will receive their BCU 2 star award and Canoe Safety award later this year.
- Four hundred classroom and field hours of training and development with the emphasis on facilitation, risk assessment, group management, and professional development.
- 97% retention of student facilitators over sixteen years.
- Responsible for leading sea kayaking, climbing, trekking, backpacking, and mountaineering programs for students, staff, alumni, and parents of Gettysburg College
- GRAB alumni currently manage outdoor programs at nine colleges/universities, while one is a full time NOLS instructor.
