Life Safety Initiative
Gettysburg College is committed to excellence in all areas of academic, residential, and social life. A growing concern has been the level of fire safety protection in residence halls and fraternities, especially in light of recent tragic fires at Seton Hall and Bloomsburg University, where students' lives were lost. Gettysburg College was fortunate in the fall of 2002 that a fire, which rendered Sigma Chi uninhabitable for months, resulted in no death or injury. It is imperative that all of the College's vital constituencies - students, parents, alumni and faculty - understand these critical life-safety needs.
In response to this concern, the Board of Trustees formed a Trustee Life Safety Task Force, which was charged to review safety issues involving all student residences, including campus residence halls, theme houses, and fraternities. Assembled here are letters, documents, and other materials that relate to life safety at Gettysburg College. Updates to these pages will be made as the process of evaluation and implementation progresses
