The Background:  Jacob C. Gurreri was born on January 13, 2000.  He was the youngest of four children, and was in kindergarten at St. Patrick’s Elementary School in York, PA.  He was full of energy and made life enjoyable for all those who knew him.  He loved sports, including racing his older brothers and sister.  In November 2005, he choked while eating lunch at school and was flown to Hershey Medical Center where he was treated until he died December 18.  His memory lives on in all those who ever met him.

The Proceeds:  In the inaugural year, the money from the race helped to construct a playground at York Catholic High School, purchase library books, and make a donation to brain research. Previous years’ race raised money for Olivia’s House, a center for grieving children and continued support of brain research. The proceeds for the fifth consecutive year will go to Ronald McDonald House in Hershey, PA to help provide basic amenities for families of sick children while they receive treatment.  The Gurreri family stayed at the Ronald McDonald House throughout their time in Hershey and we wish to support other families facing similarly difficult situations.
