Road Trip May 25
May 25 - Buckskin Canyon
We were treated to breakfast by some of Ruth's friends in Kanab and then drove to Buckskin Canyon, the longest slot canyon in the world. We hiked part of the canyon over a rocky dry river bed and in between deep red walls of prehistoric sandstone. It was a treat to look at some Indian petroglyphs. Before dinner we received a personal, afterhours tour of the Pipe Spring National Monument by John Hiscock, Park Superintendent. The students learned about the history of the site, the Paiute Indians, and Mormon settlers in the Paiute Indian Reservation where the monument is located. We closed the night at the home of John and Tracy Hiscock with Mexican food and a soak in a hot tub.
