Road Trip May 26
May 26 - Zion National Park
We drove into Zion National Park from the northwest entrance and weaved through the narrow roads. We passed by Checkerboard Mesa and stopped for a short hike to petroglyphs. After finding our campsite, we caught the shuttle into Zion Canyon for the day's hike, Angel's Landing. This was a very difficult hike, up switchbacks, through Refrigerator Canyon, up the well-known steep Walter's Wiggles to Soout Overlook. We held on to the rail to survey the 1000-foot climb we had made. Then we continued the final 1000-foot ascent over the narrow sandstone spine with sheer vertical drops on either side. None of us could believe that this is a well-traveled hike in a national park.
