Recognition Weekend
Recognition Weekend Recap
The weekend of December 2-3, 2006 saw the return to campus of Reverend Doctor Rudolph Featherstone, Class of 1956 and the first Black graduate of Gettysburg College.
On Saturday, Dr. Featherstone, other alumni, and current students and staff gathered at the Intercultural Resource Center for a reception and to share stories and perspectives. Later that evening, the IRC held a dinner in Dr. Featherstone's honor. The tributes included a spoken-word poem from Tyreen Sims, recognition by Jean LeGros on behalf of Alumni Relations, a presentation from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a presentation from the campus chapter of the NAACP, remarks prepared by NAACP President and CEO Bruce Gordon, and gifts from Associate Dean Sylvia Asante on behalf of the IRC.
On Sunday, Rev. Featherstone delivered a stirring sermon at the Gettysburg College Chapel, remarking that he could go to Heaven a happy man after seeing all the appreciation others had expressed for him over the weekend.
