CAB Committees
The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is comprised of five committees that each address a different aspect of social programming at Gettysburg College. The committees include Concerts, Traditions, Special Events, Coffeehouse, and Movie Nights. In addition to the five committees, we also co-host and co-sponsor many events with the Attic, which is an on-campus student-designed night club. Through these six committees, CAB is able to provide a social outlet for the entire campus community.
Concerts
The Concert committee is responsible for the planning and execution of the annual Fall and Spring Concerts. Past concerts have included such noteworthy groups as Busta Rhymes, Rusted Root, Blues Traveler, Ziggy Marley, Ani DiFranco, Dispatch, Live, Common, Matt Pond PA, Tobey Lightman, Howie Day, Blessed Union of Souls, Virginia Coalition, Maroon 5, Pat McGee Band, Guster, Pat Green, and most recently, the organization brought the Myspace Tour to campus that featured Hellogoodbye, Say Anything, Polysics, and Young Love.
The Concerts committee chairs are Sean Mullins '10 and Kyle Bruntz '09.
Traditions
The Traditions committee is responsible for annual programming events that the entire campus community can share in. These events include bringing the renowned Hypnotist, Michael Anthony, to campus the night before the first day of classes for the fall semester. The other traditional events include Crabfest in September, Snowball, a winter formal occurring in February, and Springfest, a three-day outside event in April, which brings concerts, food, and novelty items to the campus.
The Traditions committee chairs are Alex Hoffmaster '10 and Norrell Griffiths '09.
Special Events
The Special Events committe brings unique forms of entertainment to campus. They have successfully brought different comedians to campus, such as Robbie Printz or Jen Kober, A Capella groups, such as Chapter 6, and host transportation to Washington D.C., the National Apple Harvest Festival, and to New York City to see a choice of Broadway shows.
The Special Events committee chair is Amanda Rae '10.
Coffeehouse
The Coffeehouse committee regularly provides a comfortable and intimate setting for students to enjoy an array of musical guests who vary in genre, instruments, and often include a single artist performing. Taking place in the campus lounge, the Junction, students are able to listen to new up and coming acts in a "coffeehouse" atmosphere in large couches surrounding the stage, while drinking coffee and enjoying appetizing refreshments. There are also great giveaways at each Coffeehouse that students have the chance to win. In the past, this group has attracted less well-known but very talented performers such as Tamara Bedrickey, Stephen Kellogg, Shwa, Adam Richman, Meg Allison, Jason Myles Goss, and the Alfred James Band.
The Coffeehouse committee chair is Ashley Brookes '11.
Movie Nights
Movie nights occur almost every month in the Junction where students may watch movies that are not yet on DVD in a comfortable atmosphere of couches, free popcorn and soda, and a medium-sized movie screen to watch it on, along with three other smaller televisions that students may view the movies on as well. This year, movies such as Blades of Glory, Knocked Up, The Bourne Ultimatum, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, and Superbad have been shown.
The Movie Nights committee chair is Anskar Fosse '11
The Attic
The Attic committe is involved in the planning of high-energy parties, smaller concerts, and Happy Hours in the Attic venue. The Attic hosts popular themed events, such as the Decades Party, the Trump pary, and the Tropics party in addition to the monthly Happy Hours that feature small bands or artists, such as Keaton Simons and Jamie LaVassar, for a chance for students to eat, socialize, and enjoy some great music. The Attic also provides a venue for other forms of fun events, such as Bingo Night or Casino Night where students have a chance to win some great prizes.
The Attic is headed by the CAB Vice President, Allison Schofield '11.
