Overview of FYE
The First-Year Experience, or FYE, is a kind of Gettysburg College 101 -- a series of programs and activities that introduces new students to the College, explains the opportunities and responsibilities that come with being a student, and generally helps you make a smooth transition to living and learning here.
FYE begins before your first day of classes in the fall with pre-orientation outdoor experiences and campus orientation and extends through Fall Convocation in early November. You'll take part in sessions to help you understand curriculum requirements and select a major. You'll explore topics related to your health and safety, such as alcohol use and abuse, and healthy sexual decision-making. You'll learn about your responsibilities as a member of a campus learning community that embraces people from many backgrounds who have very different ways of looking at the world.
The purpose of all of these offerings is to help you hit the ground running both academically and socially at Gettysburg. FYE will help you figure out what to expect as a Gettysburg student and understand what's expected of you, inside and outside the classroom.
