Housing at the Seminary

For the 2014-2015 academic year, Gettysburg College is offering students housing at the Lutheran Theological Seminary, which is one mile from the Gettysburg College campus. Seminary housing options include air conditioned single rooms in one or two person apartments.

Housing Options

The available building at the Seminary is Baughman Hall (22) [number refer to the map below]. On this website you will find detailed information about Baughman Halls, including pictures. Interior pictures are provided for first and second floor apartments in order to help describe the floor plan for these large "efficiency" apartments. The interior layout of third floor apartments are similar to other apartments at Gettysburg College. All apartments at the Seminary provide more square footage per student than most housing at Gettysburg College.

Transportation

Housing at the Seminary will be particularly attractive to students with a vehicle or students living with a friend(s) who has a vehicle on campus. At the Seminary, students will have parking available outside their residence hall. At Gettysburg College students will have a residential parking decal (free of charge) that provides them access to any student lot. Students will also be able to use a limited number of reserved “Seminary” spaces in the Stadium North Parking Lot.

The Seminary is only one mile from the center of the Gettysburg College campus, therefore making it possible for students to walk or travel by bicycle between campuses. DPS will offer Safety Escorts between the hours of 8:00pm and 4:00am.

The College is also exploring whether the Freedom Transit Shuttle can provide service between the Seminary and Gettysburg College.

Safety and Security

Housing at the Seminary is compliant with all applicable building and fire codes. It does not, however, meet Gettysburg College's fire safety standards (which are more stringent than the applicable codes), in two respects – the Seminary housing is not equipped with sprinklers and does not have an addressable fire alarm system. Gettysburg College and the Seminary insure that the rooms have battery operated smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. In addition, existing alarm systems that allow notification to an outside monitoring station are connected to the College's Department of Public Safety.

A Gettysburg College Public Safety Officer is assigned to provide additional security to the Seminary campus during the hours from 8:00pm to 4:00am; Monday through Sunday.  This additional security includes:

  • Fire Safety Inspections
  • Campus and Residence Hall Proactive Patrols
  • Safety Escorts between 8:00pm and 4:00am
  • Emergency Response
  • Incident Driven Response, and
  • Various Crime Prevention Services and Activities

When selecting housing, students will be prompted to review fire safety information and provide an electronic signature acknowledging that they reviewed the material. The language that will be presented during the online housing selection process is provided below.

Seminary Housing Assignment Process

This opportunity is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students will be able to select this housing through the online housing selection process.

Please contact the Office of Residence Life if you have any questions (717-337-6901).
