Women's Center
The mission of the Center is to: promote, support and empower women on campus; advocate for a safe environment, which eliminates barriers, diminishes prejudice and bigotry, and extends a supportive climate to all women; increase awareness and understanding of multicultural women's concerns and gender equity issues, including an emphasis on how these issues affect both women and men.
About the Women's Center
The Women's Center staff and volunteers are Advocates for positive treatment of women in the Gettysburg community. The primary purposes of the Women's Center are to educate the college community about women's contributions, achievements, concerns, and potential; to promote Gettysburg's commitment to the equality of women and men; and to support all those who strive for equality at Gettysburg College.
The Women's Center provides an exciting assortment of timely programs for students, staff, and faculty, including support groups, workshops, lectures, interest groups, social activities, and the annual Women's Conference. People searching for new ideas and ways to put those ideas into action make the Women's Center a vital part of campus life and an important educational resource for the Gettysburg College community.
Opened in the fall of 1988, the Women's Center offers a relaxed, warm, friendly, growth-oriented alternative for students, faculty, and administrators. The Women's Centerinvites the campus to use the facility and its resources to cultivate new ideas and reexamine the traditional thinking of women's roles in society.
The Center's secure and supportive atmosphere provides freedom from sexual bias and inequities. The Women's Center welcomes a diversity of women's experiences, ranging from the traditional to the radical. It is a place where women, as well as men, can grow to their full potential.
Location
Our comfortable programming space, located in the Women's Meeting House on 30 North Washington Street, includes our office, library, meeting area, full kitchen, and dining area. Whether you want to read a book, watch our big-screen television, enjoy a cup of tea, hang out with friends, or study in a quiet environment, our convenient day and evening hours make this possible. Also, please feel free to book our space for special meetings and gatherings during our "after-hours."
The Co-Directors are never far and are available as they live in a spacious apartment right next door in the Women's Center. Don't hesitate to knock on our door if you need us after-hours or want to say "hello!"
