Our Promise

Our promise binds us together. It guides our actions and thus underlies moments of success and ongoing accomplishments. The promise provides direction to each of us at the College. It encourages us to ask ourselves if we are behaving in ways that foster the promise in the student experience. It serves as an internal touchstone; it is philosophical, not descriptive. As such, the words of the promise are not to be absorbed into text in whole or in part. No part of the promise statement may be changed, nor may the order of the words be modified.

The Gettysburg College promise as presented below is the only authorized format. It is set in Bembo Italic, left-justified. The line breaks are deliberate. The official presentation of the promise is available as an art file.

The promise statement, exactly as it appears below, may be inserted as an element in printed or electronic communications. If used in conversation or in the script of a speech, the first reference must be in its entirety.
