Judy Brough

Expertise:

Focusing on middle-level education and transition to and from middle school, Brough has written and presented on numerous topics, including middle level education, child growth and development, curriculum considerations, teaching strategies, classroom management and discipline, cognitive implications for learning, teacher as counselor, self-concept, parent involvement and societal impacts on learning. Her current research includes leadership and motivating disengaged students.  She is the co-author of the recently published Teach Me - I Dare You! and  Lead Me - I Dare You!

Professional Achievements:

Brough has served as a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals' Middle Level Council, and as chair of he National Middle School Association's Family Advocacy Committee and Council of Chairs. She has also served as a member of the editorial boards of the journals Transescence: Journal on Emerging Adolescent Education and Current Issues in Middle Level Education.  She is currently a co-facilitator for the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development's Middle Grades Network.  She has been recognized for her advocacy for young adolescents by the PA Middle School Association and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, which awarded her the prestigious Gruhn Long Melton Award.

Educational Background:

She has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in elementary education from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. She received her doctorate in curriculum planning and development with a specialization in middle level education from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
