Updating your Virus Protection

Anti-Virus Updates

Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) looks for updates 4 times a day. If it finds updates, they are immediately pushed to the computers. LiveUpdate is configured on each computer to run the following schedule:

Administrative computers: 11:00am daily
Academic computers: 12:00pm daily

A forced SEP install will be performed if a computer is found on the network without SEP.

Anti-Virus Scans

Virus scans are performed on a weekly basis. The schedule is as follows:

Administrative computers: Fridays at 12:15pm
Academic computers: Fridays at 12:00pm

If a computer is suspected of being infected, a scan is performed immediately.

If you find your virus definitions are out of date, you can manually perform an update as follows:

• Double click the yellow SEP shield in the bottom right corner of the screen.
• Click the LiveUpdate button on the left side of the SEP window.
• It should automatically download the updated definitions. If not, click the start button.
• When finished, click the close button
