Strategic Planning

2009/2010 IT Divisional Goals Addressing Relationships, the President’s Goals, and On-going Services

I) Relationships

• Assess and improve effective communication and decision-making processes within the Information Technology Division
• Assess and improve effective communication and decision-making processes between Information Technology Division and the campus community
• Perform critical review of Campus Technology Exchange process
• Develop a divisional communications plan

II) President’s Goals

1. Stewardship of the College in this difficult economic period
• Continue development and implementation of cost-cutting initiatives within IT budget
• Investigate Open Source and hosted solutions for LMS and other campus systems

2. Enhance national visibility
• Attend conferences, make presentations, and develop ECAR Bulletins
• Continue, improve efficiency, and minimize required resources of portal conference

3. Raise resources
• Focus on technology projects related to cost-cutting and revenue generation

Strategic Directions

Engagement:
4. Attract and retain outstanding faculty and staff
• Maintain Enhanced Learning Spaces
• Work with JCCT to develop additional faculty training programs
• Expand new Campus technology grant program
• Continue rewiring projects and network upgrades
• Develop the resources and support in the Digital and Laptop Center for faculty, staff, and students
• Integrate Storage Area Network into academic environment

5. Promote academic excellence through student research and creative activity
• Expand support for Celebration ‘10

6. Support the development of co-curricular programs that promote leadership development

7. Complete and open the Center for Athletics, Recreation, and Fitness
• Consult and support in regards to technology needs and design in The Athletics Center.

8. Continue to build a community that welcomes diversity
• Investigate preferred name features
• Continue needed technological support for visually impaired students and investigate options for fully integrating students with other disabilities

10. Review Civil War programs to determine desirability/feasibility of new directions and/or refocus of current programs

11. Continue to enrich network that connects alumni, students, and faculty
• Support second phase of myGettysburg (alumni/ae) within the Web Enterprise Services framework and address improvements related to project

12. Refine a set of key performance indicators for annual review and tracking by President’s Council and the Board
• Develop appropriate key performance indicators for Information Technology

III) On-Going Services

Coordinate the evolution of strong core services with emerging campus requirements
• Ensure security reviews and audits of Data Systems, Personal Computers, and Personal Digital Assistants
• Plan and implement the customization and development of internal systems to address campus needs
• Ensure quality of on-going services
• Optimize hardware purchase and deployment process
• Optimize IT Newsletter / IT Communications to engage campus community
• In conjunction with the campus community, review and revise campus wide technology policies
• Assess and plan for Blackboard purchase of Angel
• Assess and plan for new Peoplesoft Campus Community system


Work as One Information Technology organization embracing the Information Technology Standards of Excellence
• Review and revise internal IT Policies
• Assess and improve efficiency of IT divisional events
• Refine the IT calendar to ensure quality service to campus community
• Continue to address the challenges of a physically separated division
