Information Technology 2007/2008 Divisional Goals

Addressing On-going Service and the College's Strategic Directions

1) In collaboration with the campus community, advance the College's Strategic Directions through the following new and on-going initiatives

Engagement

Goal 1: Sustain an environment that attracts and retains outstanding faculty and staff, supporting teaching, advising, and research and other creative activity.

Implementation Strategies

 

  • Provide appropriate, up-to-date facilities and resources that support our academic program, are suited to contemporary educational needs, and allow us to respond to changing pedagogies.
  • Provide compensation and conditions for success for faculty and staff that are competitive with those offered by the nation's preeminent liberal arts colleges.
  • Address next phase of Enhanced Learning Spaces.
  • Address the Enhanced Space needs of co-curricular activities.
  • Broaden the college involvement in the assessment of Enterprise Solutions including Digital Asset Management.
  • Continue rewiring projects and network upgrades.
  • Increase the value and use of the web usability laboratory.
  • Develop an academic software plan in concert with the laptop purchase program to address the computer laboratory space challenges posed by the 3-2 teaching load.
  • Continue Web Enterprise System plan.
  • Continue assessment of the Tablet PC in an academic environment.
  • Implement assessment program of the Learning Environment in concert with the evolution of the academic program specifically the 3-2 teaching load.
  • Develop the resources and support in the Digital and Laptop Center for faculty, staff, and students.

Goal 1: Expand opportunities for students to engage in public policy concerns and challenges, making Gettysburg one of the nation's foremost colleges for undergraduate involvement in public policy.

Implementation strategies

 

  • Build on the Eisenhower legacy by expanding opportunities for students to engage in strong public policy programs that maximize the potential of the College's affiliation with the Eisenhower Institute and take full, strategic advantage of its two locations in Washington, D.C., and on the Gettysburg campus.
  • Offer abundant opportunities for student and faculty involvement in public policy programs and activities in Washington, D.C.
  • Investigate video conference and telepresence systems.

 

Access

Goal 1: Increase the diversity of the student body.

Implementation strategies

 

  • Develop student recruitment and retention programs targeted toward increasing student diversity and addressing challenges posed by the changing demographics of the college-bound population.
  • Engage the campus community in the use of technology to support the recruitment and retention toward increasing student diversity. Specific examples include:
  • TV programming.
  • Social Gaming spaces.
  • Off-campus communications.
  • Events.
  • Community service projects.
  • Need-based laptop loaner program.
  • Support for multi-lingual and multi-cultural computing.

 

Connection

Goal 1: Promote a culture of connection and a sense of identity and pride among all major College constituencies.

Implementation strategies

 

  • Strengthen relationships among students, parents of students, faculty, and alumni, and strengthen the connections these groups have with the College.
  • Broaden opportunities for parents and alumni to volunteer in support of the College.
  • Expand programs that strengthen loyalty to the College among current students.
  • Increase rates of participation by alumni in College activities and in the Annual Fund.
  • Implement myGettysburg (prospective student) within the Web Enterprise Services framework.
  • Implement first phase of myGettysburg (alumni/ae) within the Web Enterprise Services framework.
  • Upgrade Content Management System including e-communication tools, analytic tools, and form builder.

  1. Angel Learning Management System
    a. 100% of on-campus students used Angel in the spring semester
    b. 72% of faculty used Angel in the spring semester
  2. Increase wireless coverage to 95% of campus
  3. On a daily basis, blocked approximately 200,000 spam emails out of 250,000 emails received. This represents a 98% block rate of incoming spam.
  4. 75% participation rate in the strongly suggested laptop program
  5. Upgraded 100% of the campus data systems
  6. Doubled the internet access bandwidth from 45 megabits per second to 100 megabits per second

In collaboration with the campus community, advance the Learning Environment through the following new and on-going initiatives

  • Addressed next phase of Enhanced Learning Spaces.
  • By reallocating funds, created part time position to cover evenings and summer conferences. Installed the next phase of one-touch controls.
  • Completed the implementation of Angel.
  • Developing a Digital Asset Management System plan.
  • Continued Laptop Purchase Program.
  • Continued wireless expansion of green areas and buildings.
  • Continued rewiring projects and network upgrades.
  • Developed a Web Enterprise System (WES) plan.

  • Supported the investigation of a campus wide e-portfolio solution.
  • Continued assessment of the Tablet PC in an academic environment.
  • Implemented Assessment program for continual improvement of Learning Environment.
  • Melissa Rummel investigated technology used by faculty and students in our current learning environment. She installed three collaboration stations in the library and writing center.
  • Taught five college courses.

 

Coordinate the evolution of strong core services with emerging campus requirements

  • Addressed Data Systems, Personal Computer, Cell Phone, and Blackberry Security reviews and audits.
  • Developed a Storage Area Network Solution plan.
  • Designed, negotiated, and funded a campus-wide SAN solution
  • Ensured integrity of on-going services.
  • Performed upgrades to BSR Advance System, Housing Director System, Judicial System, Peoplesoft HR and Student System, R25 Event System.
  • Started the Campus Technology Exchange
  • Supported campus podcasting and incorporated podcasting-like techniques into training materials
  • Implemented two year performance upgrade.
  • Continued Enterprise Resource Plan Assessment.
  • Reviewed hardware purchase process.
  • Maintained IT Newsletter / IT Communications to engage campus community.
  • Continued expanding Content Management System with e-communication and Customer Relation Management like functionality.
