Assistant Director of Parent Relations - Division of Development, Alumni & Parents Relations

Gettysburg College seeks qualified candidates for Assistant Director of Parent Relations, a position within the Division of Development, Alumni and Parent Relations. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative and professional staff position. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Parent Relations and has a close working relationship with the Annual Giving team. The Assistant Director develops strategies and executes programs to increase gift support of the Gettysburg Fund and its unrestricted support for the College's annual operating budget from current parents, parents of alumni, and grandparents.

The Assistant Director will build on Gettysburg College's current Parents Fund program, bringing energy and innovation to a program that is poised to expand significantly. Among other responsibilities, the position manages the on-going identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donor prospects-specifically parents, parents of alumni, and grandparents-through direct mail, phonathon, and personal visits. The Assistant Director oversees efforts to inform parents and others about the Parents Fund; educates parents and others about the importance of annual support; works closely with the Parents Fund Committee, a group of parent volunteers; and plans and attends Parents Fund Committee meetings at biannual Parents Advisory Board meetings. The position manages a portfolio of Parents Fund prospects and travels significantly, approximately 8-10 days per month. The Assistant Director supports volunteers and is often required to work outside of normal business hours.

The successful candidate will think strategically and creatively; operate in an organized manner; communicate exceptionally well orally and in writing; be goal and achievement oriented; manage situations diplomatically; and handle information confidentially. This position demands flexibility and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will understand the mission of a liberal arts college.

A bachelor's degree, preferably from a selective liberal arts college, is required. Two to four years of successful fundraising experience highly preferred. Annual fund experience, volunteer management, and web design/maintenance are a plus.

Founded in 1832, Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with approximately 2,600 students. It is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania, within proximity of Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Gettysburg College is committed to creating a more diverse community. As part of that process, the College encourages candidates from historically underrepresented groups to apply. Address all requests for information, letters of application and resumes, including three professional references to:  Jennifer Lucas, Co-Director of Human Resources, Human Resources Office, Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, PA 17325; e-mail address: jlucas@gettysburg.edu.

For full consideration, application materials should be received by August 21, 2009. The position will remain open until filled.
