Assistant Vice President for Alumni and Parent Relations
Founded in 1832, Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with approximately 2,600 students. It is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania within proximity of Baltimore and Washington, D.C. The College completed a strategic directions initiative in 2007, and recently conducted a feasibility study in preparation for a comprehensive campaign.
The College seeks qualified candidates for an Assistant Vice President for Alumni and Parent Relations. This position is one of three who serve as senior staff to the Vice President of Development, Alumni and Parent Relations and has responsibility for developing, staffing and directing alumni and parent programs at Gettysburg College. Through visionary leadership, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to expand the work of Alumni and Parent Relations. This position manages a present staff of five, with funding for two additional positions in place, and has oversight of a variety of administrative, supervisory, management, and programmatic responsibilities. This position is the primary support for the College's Alumni Association's Board of Directors and will travel, sometimes extensively to meet with constituency at events, meetings, and personal visits to promote the College and promote support for the institution.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, preferably from a selective, private liberal arts institution. No less than seven and preferably ten years of increasing responsibility in staff management, program development and volunteer administration required, preferably for an educational institution. Fund raising experience is preferred. The successful candidate should have considerable knowledge of alumni and parent programs, volunteer management, supervisory principles and practices. Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to lead and create synergy within staff and programs; demonstrated commitment to team work, while also being able to work well independently; to be achievement-oriented; to inspire volunteers; to maintain confidentiality; to manage many projects simultaneously; to have genuine interest in, and care and concern for, Gettysburg alumni and parents; and eagerness to travel and work at times that are advantageous to volunteers.
