Director of Student Rights & Responsibilities - College Life

Gettysburg College, in historic Gettysburg Pennsylvania, is seeking an experienced professional for a full time position as Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities.  Gettysburg is an undergraduate liberal-arts college, which enrolls approximately 2,600 primarily residential students. 

The primary responsibility of the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities is to oversee the College's student conduct system, and to take leadership of the College's efforts to educate students on the values of citizenship and personal responsibility.  The Director reports to the Associate Dean of College Life, and is a member of the student life directors' team.  The Director will:

  • Oversee the administration of the College's judicial system by providing leadership to the College's team of student conduct administrators to adjudicate and sanction all student code violations and by hearing appeals of student conduct administrator cases.
  • Serve on the Dean's Student Behavioral Assessment group.
  • Work in a culture focused on promoting the co-curricular learning experience of Gettysburg students, with a strong focus on effective assessment. 
  • Work collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues, faculty members, students, and other key constituencies.
  • Take leadership in the review and development of important College policy initiatives, including leadership of the College's student affairs policy development/review committee (Student Life Committee).
  • Take leadership in the College's work on alcohol and drug issues: research efforts, aspects of our educational program, policy review and development, administration of the summer AlcoholEdu program.

Preferred education and experience includes:

  • A Masters degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field is preferred with 2+ years of full-time professional experience in Student Affairs.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will:

  • Have professional experience in college judicial affairs: policy development and enforcement, individual student meetings, parent interactions, etc.
  • Have a background in private higher education, as well as an appreciation for liberal arts education.
  • Demonstrate strong experience with and understanding of student co-curricular learning theory/practice.
  • Demonstrate strong experience with and understanding of the assessment of co-curricular learning.
  • Possess general familiarity and facility with technology, and demonstrate the ability to successfully incorporate technology into the work of their programs in an ongoing, progressive fashion
  • Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills, and a strong ability to work collaboratively - with a special focus on collaborative relationships with administrative colleagues, faculty colleagues, and students.
