Location

Beautiful 200-acre campus with over 60 buildings. The College is adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park. Gettysburg, Pa. is 36 miles from Harrisburg, 55 miles from Baltimore, 80 miles from Washington, D.C., 117 miles from Philadelphia, and 212 miles from New York City. Gettysburg College sponsors a shuttle service to and from area transportation centers and area cities.

Student Body

About 2,600 students, with roughly equal numbers of men and women. Gettysburg students come from 40 states and 35 countries.

Off-Campus Study

An extensive and popular program of international study is available through the off-campus studies office. More than 50% of Gettysburg students study nationally and internationally for either one semester or a year; some summer programs are also available.

Cultural Activities

Nearly 3,200 cultural events within a four-year period. Full schedule of lectures, concerts, and plays, bringing to campus nationally known speakers and performers; an extensive film series; art exhibits; trips to nearby Washington, D.C. and Baltimore to events of special interest.

Student Life

More than 120 clubs and organizations focusing on community service, art and music, the media, academics, athletics, student government, career fields, outdoor adventure, and other areas of interest. Clubs and organizations provide students with over 1,000 leadership opportunities each year.

Residence Life

More than 90% of the student body lives on campus in 43 residence halls, including special interest houses and apartment complexes.

Exceptional Facilities

Musselman Library (more than 440,000 volumes, media theater, a media production center, a language laboratory, and an online library catalogue accessible through computer terminals in the library or through any microcomputer connected to the campus network); state-of-the-art science facilities including a proton accelerator, two electron microscopes (transmission and scanning units), Fourier Transform Infrared and NMR Spectrometers, an optics laboratory, greenhouse, planetarium, observatory, and a plasma physics laboratory; The Infant and Child Study Center; extensive facilities for fine arts, music, and drama including the Sunderman Conservatory; writing center; a comprehensive physical education complex; a career planning & advising office; College Union Building; student activities center; and a Center for Public Service.


Majors and programs
41 majors plus dual-degree programs, pre-health, pre-law, and pre-business advising, double majors, student-designed individual majors, and major/minor combinations.

Faculty
Student/faculty ratio of 10.7 to 1 with an average class size of 18 students. More than 190 full-time faculty with 95% of the permanent faculty having a doctorate or the highest earned degree in their fields.

Honor Societies
One of only 19 chapters of Phi Beta Kappa in Pennsylvania. Honorary or professional societies in 16 academic areas. Academic honor code in effect since 1957.

Athletics
NCAA Division III competition in 24 sports for men and women, plus an extensive array of club, intramural, and recreational programs. Gettysburg has earned the distinction of having the best win/loss record in the Conference for the past 14 years.

Career Development
Comprehensive Career Distinction program includes internship and externship opportunities, workshops on career and graduate school planning, job fairs, career days, an extensive alumni network, career library, group sessions on all phases of the career planning process, and individual career counseling. Ninety-five percent of graduates have a job or are in graduate school within one year of graduating.

Highly selective admissions process with strong academic preparation required. Recommendations from a teacher and college counselor. Personal interview strongly recommended, but not required.

Financial Aid
Gettysburg College is committed to working with students and their families to ensure that one's ability to pay not become an obstacle to a Gettysburg education. Approximately 75% of all students receive some form of financial aid and the average aid package exceeds $25,000 a year. Most aid is awarded based on financial need, but academic merit and music scholarships are also available.

Computing Facilities
Includes high speed, unrestricted access to the Internet from all campus buildings, offices, laboratories, and residence hall rooms along with wireless connections throughout campus.

Spiritual Life
Lutheran related. Programs for students of all faiths coordinated through the Office of the Chaplain. Student religious organizations include Hillel, a Muslim student organization, and a Newman Association.
