My Story from Global Study:

I have so many amazing memories from my time studying abroad. Some of my favorite memories were at a restaurant called Lupita, which was located a few blocks away from the global institute where I was living. Between its delicious food and well-priced items, it quickly became a typical hangout location for my friends and me. During our first week in Berlin, I did not know much German at all, but I still wanted to practice what I did know with local residents. At Lupita, I attempted to order in German, but I failed miserably. Luckily, our waiter knew English and had a great sense of humor, so he gave me a small German lesson. Each time we went back to Lupita and had that waiter, he would speak German to us in order to help us use our language skills in a practical manner.

I really appreciated his patience as we stumbled through our words and used the wrong tense. He made us feel welcome in the community, and he helped us really appreciate the culture of Berlin.

My Advice for Future Students:

If I were to give advice to students who are considering studying abroad, I would say to keep an open mind about where you go. When I was first thinking about studying globally, I wanted to go to England because I wanted to stay in my comfort zone and go somewhere where English is spoken. However, I am so glad that I pushed myself beyond what I thought I was capable of because CIEE Berlin definitely ended up being the right program for me.
