Dear adjunct colleagues:

The Johnson Center for Creative Teaching and Learning is delighted to tell you that we have created a tab on our webpage that IS JUST FOR YOU! On behalf of the Johnson Center and its Advisory Board, I want to say that the suggestions you made during the January 31 luncheon were very valuable. Here is the list:

Half-day orientation strictly for adjuncts—in addition to established orientation

Meeting with adjuncts joining the College at mid-year

“Cheat sheet”—information that everyone should have: essential names, resources, rights, benefits, etc.—made available to department chairs

Mini-programming, a campus tour, for example

Adjunct mentoring system-experienced adjunct paired with an incoming faculty member

Once-a-year get-together

Meeting two weeks into the semester to make certain that all is going as planned

Continuation of e-mail for a semester after an adjunct has left the College

Electronic communication strictly for adjuncts where they can exchange , ideas, make announcements, etc.

THIS LAST SUGGESTION WE ARE GOING TO FOLLOW UP ON IMMEDIATELY. ONCE YOU SEE THE ADJUNCT TAB ON OUR WEBSITE, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CLICK ON IT AND FIND A LINK THAT WILL BE A MEANS FOR ADJUNCTS TO CONNECT WITH ONE ANOTHER EASILY.

Please let me know if I have overlooked an idea or if there is a new idea that you wish to add. Needless to say, some of the suggestions will take more time and planning, but I hope that you will see the Johnson Center for Creative Teaching and Learning as an ongoing source of support and that you will turn to the Johnson Center with any needs you may have.

Cordially,

Elizabeth Richardson Viti
