For all faculty planning to teach a course that meets the first year writing requirement in 2018-2019, this workshop will cover expectations for first-year writing, assignment design and assessment, best practices for synthesizing seminar content with writing instruction, and support services for students and faculty in first-year writing classes.

Introduction to Mediation: Techniques for Navigating Difficult Conversations and Resolving Conflicts

hakimThis workshop is for faculty, staff and administrators who have little to no training in mediation and would like to improve their ability to deal with conflict in the workplace or classroom.  Professor Hakim Mohandas Amani Williams (Africana Studies) will introduce basic principles of mediation and guide you through exercises designed to give all participants a chance to practice being mediators. Hakim has offered mediation classes and training in the United States and abroad to undergraduate and graduate students, teachers, parents, and politicians.
