Fall and Spring ~ All Majors ~ Group Program

Program in Brief:

This semester program at Le Centre d'Aix is designed for students who wish to complete their Gettysburg College distribution requirement in language abroad, and also to serve
students who wish to pursue a minor in French. In the intermediate program students fufill the French 201-202 language sequence. Students take two required courses in French language, and three other courses taught in French or English. In the advanced program for minors students take three required courses in French, and two other courses taught in French or English.

Orientation:

There is a mandatory Send-Off Session at Gettysburg College for all off campus studies students the semester prior to the program. An on-site orientation is held in Aix-en-Provence upon arrival.

Location:

The Institute of American Universities (IAU) sponsors this program, located in Aix-en-Provence, a lovely French city near the Mediterranean coast, not far from the Riviera and the city of Marseille.

Living Arrangements:

All students live in a mandatory homestay and take meals with their family.

Courses and Credit:

All off campus programs are worth 4 Gettysburg Course Units. In order to receive this, students must take a "full load of courses" which is equal to 5 classes on this program.

Program Dates:

Mid-August through mid-December or mid-January through mid-May.

Eligibility Requirements:

Satisfactory completion of French 101-102 (or 103-104) for intermediate program. Satisfactory completion of 201-202 for advanced program.

Program Cost:

Students pay the Gettysburg comprehensive fee (in 2008-2009 is $23,350 per semester) and receive tuition, room, board, round trip airfare from New York to Paris, transportation to Marseilles from Paris, and program excursions.
