Gettysburg in Mexico through Augsburg College

Program in Brief:

Students can choose between Augsburg's fall semester program Crossing Borders: Gender & Social Change in Mesoamerica, and their spring semester program Migration and Globalization: Engaging our Communities both which are based in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

Orientation:

There is a mandatory Send-Off Session at Gettysburg College for all off campus studies students the semester prior to the program. Students also attend a program orientation usually held on the U.S./Mexican border prior to the start of the
program.

Location:

Cuernavaca is a beautiful city in central Mexico well known as a center for innovative grassroots organizations. It is 50 miles south of Mexico City.

Living Arrangements:

Students live in a shared room in a house located in Colonia San Anton, across the street from the school where language classes are held. There is also common living space for
classes, study and leisure time, as well as a small library. Meals (including vegetarian options) are prepared and served on the premises. Students also spend three weeks living with a local working class family in Cuernavaca or in a nearby village.

Courses and Credit:

All off campus programs are worth 4 Gettysburg Course Units. In order to receive this, students must take a "full load of courses" which is equal to 4 classes on this program.

Program Dates:

Early September through mid-December, or late January through mid-May.

Eligibility Requirements:

Satisfactory completion of one college-level course in Spanish is required.

Program Cost:

Students pay the Gettysburg comprehensive fee (in 2008-2009 it is $23,350 per semester) and receive tuition, room, board, and flight.
