Gettysburg in Hungary through the Budapest Semester in Mathematics
Program in Brief:
This semester program through the Budapest Semester in Mathematics offers juniors and seniors majoring in Mathematics or Computer Science the opportunity to take courses in their major taught by renowned Hunagarian scholars.
Orientation:
There is a mandatory Send-Off Session at Gettysburg College for all off campus studies students the semester prior to the program. Students attend an on-site orietation upon arrival in Budapest.
Location:
Budapest, a city of two million, is situated on both sides of the river Danube. It is the cultural, economic and political capitol of Hungary. Its central European location allows access to all major western and easter European centers.
Living Arrangements:
Students live in shared rooms in apartments or in a homestay with a Hungarian family.
Courses and Credit:
All off campus programs are worth 4 Gettysburg Course Units. In order to receive this, students must take a "full load of courses" which is equal to 4 classes on this program.
Program Dates:
Late August through mid-December, or mid-January through late May..
Eligibility Requirements:
Usually mathematics or computer science majors attend this program, however, students who have completed at least one semester of college level advanced calculus or abstract algebra may apply. This is a competitive program, and students should have at least a 3.0 GPA.
Program Cost:
Students pay the Gettysburg comprehensive fee (in 2008-2009 it is $23,350 per semester) and receive tuition, room, board, and flight.
