Gettysburg in Japan - Kansai Gaidai University, Osaka
Program in Brief:
This semester or academic year long program at Kansai Gaidai University offers the opportunity for students in all majors to take Japanese language and a variety of other courses, including East Asian Studies, taught in English.
Orientation:
There is a mandatory Send-Off Session at Gettysburg College for all off campus studies students the semester prior to the program. An on-site orientation is held at Kansai Gaidai upon arrival.
Location:
Kansai Gaidai University is located between Osaka, one of the largest cities in Japan, and Kyoto, a culturally-rich historic capital
Living Arrangements:
Students can choose to live in a homestay or in a residence hall on the Kansai Gaidai campus. Stipends are provided for food for students living on campus. Homestay students take all meals except lunches on weekdays (for which they receive a stipend as well) with their host families.
Courses and Credit:
All students take Japanese language courses and additional courses in English. Japanese language is taught at all levels including beginning courses for students with no prior language study. All off campus programs are worth 4 Gettysburg Course Units. In order to receive this, students must take a "full load of courses" which is equal to 17 semester hours on this program..
Program Dates:
Late August through mid-December, late January through late May.
Eligibility Requirements:
Any student with a 3.0 GPA or higher and at least sophomore status may apply.
Program Cost:
Students pay the Gettysburg comprehensive fee (in 2008-2009 it is $23,350 per semester) and receive tuition, room, board, and flight.
