Gettysburg at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Wood's Hole, MA
Program in Brief:
This Semester in Environmental Science program at the Marine
Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, emphasizes inquiry-based learning through student participation in laboratory and research projects. Students are instructed in basic methods and principles of ecosystems science in a manner that enhances and supplements existing curricula at Gettysburg.
Orientation:
All students participate in an orientation on arrival at the MBL.
Location:
Woods Hole is located on Cape Cod, just a few miles from Falmouth. It is the home of many important scientific institutions, and the point of departure for the Martha's Vineyard ferry.
Living Arrangements:
All students live at the MBL in shared rooms. Students take their meals at the MBL restaurant.
Courses and Credit:
All off campus programs are worth 4 Gettysburg Course Units. In order to receive this, students must take a "full load of courses" which is equal to 4 units on this program.
Program Dates:
Early September through mid-December.
Eligibility Requirements:
Satisfactory completion of one year of college-level biology, one year of college-level chemistry and one year of college-level calculus is required.
Program Costs:
Students pay the Gettysburg comprehensive fee (in 2008-2009 it is $23,350 per semester) and receive tuition, room, and board.
