Gettysburg in Austria

Fall or Spring ~ Music Majors/Minors Only ~ Group Program

Program in Brief:

This semester or year program is designed for music majors or minors only.  Students can take a variety of courses including Music Performance Workshop, Private Music Lessons, Music History, Music Theory, Area Studies Courses in humanities, social sciences and the arts, and German language from beginning to advanced levels. All students must take German language at the appropriate level.

Orientation:

There is a mandatory Send-Off Session at Gettysburg College for all off campus studies students the semester prior to the program. An on-site orientation is held in Austria upon arrival.

Location:

Vienna, Austria is a city of 1. 8 million people and is situated on the Danube River at the edge of the Austrian Alps. Vienna is home to unparalleled opera houses, museums and theaters.  The IES Vienna Center is located in the Palais Corbelli, an elegant 18^th-century palace located in the heart of the city and just minutes from major cultural attractions.

Living Arrangements:

There are three housing options in Vienna: Private Apartments, Shared Apartments, and Residence Halls.

Courses and Credits:

All off campus programs are worth 4 Gettysburg Course Units. In order to receive this, students must take a "full load of courses" which is equal to 4 classes on this program.

Program Dates:

Late August through mid-December or early January through late-April.

Eligibility Requirements:

Students should have at least a 3.0 and have a strong music portfolio.

Program Cost:

Students pay the Gettysburg comprehensive fee (in 2008-2009 it is $23,350 per semester) and receive tuition, room, board and flight.
