Gettysburg in Washington, DC through American University
Program in Brief:
Students earn a full semester of academic credit at American University by participating in an internship (two days per week) and two academic courses in virtually any field of study.
Orientation:
All students participate in an orientation on arrival in Washington.
Location:
Washington DC, our nation's capitol, is a wonderful place to spend the semester, and arguably the best place to get some in depth work experience. On this program, students take advantage of their work placement, classes, and other activities
to get to know this fascinating city.
Living Arrangements:
All students are required to live in a double or triple room on the Tenley campus of American University, and take their meals at the Tenley
cafeteria.
Courses and Credit:
All off campus programs are worth 4 Gettysburg Course Units. In order to receive this, students must take a "full load of courses" which is equal to a seminar, an internship and a research project (or a night class at AU) on this program.
Program Dates:
Early September through mid-December, or mid- January through mid-May.
Eligibility Requirements:
All students in good standing may apply.
Program Costs:
Students pay the Gettysburg comprehensive fee (in 2008-2009 it is $23,350 per semester) and receive tuition, double or triple room on the Tenley campus, and a "150 Block meal plan with 300 Eagle Bucks." Students participating in a program with an international component are responsible for airfare and other costs associated with that program.
Application Deadlines:
March 15 (for Fall Semester)
October 15 (for Spring Semester)
