Gettysburg in South Africa at Rhodes University

Program in Brief:

This semester or year program based in Grahamstown offers students the opportunity to take classes in all academic disciplines. All Gettysburg students are required to take at least one course in African Studies as part of their program.

Orientation:

There is a mandatory Send-Off Session at Gettysburg College for all off campus studies students the semester prior to the program. An on-site orientation is held in Grahamstown upon arrival.

Location:

Students study at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa which is located 80 miles from Port Elizabeth and 560 Miles from Cape Town. All the amenities of a large city are close to hand and complement the small town qualities of friendliness which is a feature of life in Grahamstown. Gettysburg College offers this program in partnership with InterStudy.

Living Arrangements:

All students live in Residence Halls.  

Courses and Credit:

All off campus programs are worth 4 Gettysburg Course Units. In order to receive this, students must take a "full load of courses" which is equal to 15-16 semester hours of credit on this program.

Program Dates:

Early-February through late-June or mid-July through late-November.

Eligibility Requirements:

A 2.8 gpa is strongly preferred.

Program Costs:

Students pay the Gettysburg comprehensive fee (in 2008-2009 it is $23,350 per semester) and receive tuition, room, board, round trip airfare from Atlanta to Port Elizabeth, and program excursions.
