What costs are covered by Gettysburg?
- Tuition
Gettysburg College pays for all required academic costs for a full load of courses on your off campus program. All mandatory field trips or excursions are included, but optional field trips or excursions are your responsibility.
- Housing during the academic period
Housing in a double or triple room or with a family is included. Students who choose to live in a single room for which there is a supplement will be billed the difference between the cost of a regular room and a single.
- Board during the academic period
Gettysburg College pays for the equivalent of a "full meal plan" at your program site. This could be three meals a day with a host family, a meal plan in a residence hall, a credit to your Gettysburg student account so you can purchase and prepare food, or some combination of these things. Gettysburg College does not pay for meals you choose to eat out at restaurants so take full advantage of the meal arrangements included with your program.
- Support Services, Orientation Materials and Advising
All students will receive continual advising services while they are off campus via the Office of Off Campus Studies. Pre-Departure Handbooks and other orientation materials will be given to all students, and questions pertaining to Gettysburg College issues can be addressed by this office while students are off campus.
- Round-trip airfare from US gateway city (for most programs)
If you are participating in a study abroad program, your program fee includes the cost of airfare to your study abroad program site, from the designated US Gateway city. For programs in Europe, this is usually New York ; for programs in Asia and Australia , this is usually Los Angeles ; for programs in Latin America, this is usually Miami . It is your responsibility to get to the gateway city.
For some programs, a group flight from the gateway city to your program site is arranged for your convenience. You may take advantage of this service or make your own arrangements. If you choose to make your own arrangements, an amount equal to the cost of the group flight will be applied to the balance in your Gettysburg College student account. All students traveling independently must meet the group in time for the start of any on-site orientation. Arrangements cannot be made for students who travel independently to be met at the airport.
The airfare is not covered by Gettysburg College for domestic programs that have an international component, such as the American University program or the Duke in Bermuda program. The cost of these flights is the responsibility of the student.
Students attending programs for the year should note that only one round-trip airfare is paid by Gettysburg . If students wish to return home mid-year, they should look for discounted student fares and budget for this additional expense.
As noted in the following Budget Worksheet , a pre-determined amount for your flight will be credited to your Student Account since the cost of the flight is included in your program fee. However, all students must pay for their flight prior to receiving this credit as flight arrangements are made several months in advance of departure.
