Study abroad location and semester:
Bath, England; Fall 2012
Mendoza, Argentina; Spring 2013
English with a Writing Concentration; Spanish (undeclared minor)
Favorite abroad experience:
One of my favorite abroad experiences from when I was in England was going to Stratford-upon-Avon, the town in which Shakespeare was born and is buried, seeing his grave, exploring the city, and watching three fantastic Royal Shakespeare Company productions over the course of three days. We went in December when everything was decorated for the holidays with lights and pine wreaths, which just made the experience all the more magical. My favorite abroad experiences in Argentina all have to do with eating asado—which is when you grill huge amounts of beef and sausage at your house, invite all your friends and family, and eat, drink, and be merry all day.
Why I joined GLGC:
This year that I’ve spent abroad has had enormous impacts on me personally and academically, and I know that transitioning back to college life after a year of non-stop adventure could be somewhat challenging—so I’m excited to have a community of fellow travelers on campus with whom I can discuss my experiences, share stories, and help transition back to the American college lifestyle. I also think GLGC is a fantastic platform to promote study abroad programs and global awareness on campus, and am excited to be a part of that as well.
Plans after graduation:
I’m not exactly sure what I’ll be doing after graduation, but I would love for it to include travelling—whether that means joining the Peace Corps, doing missionary work, or simply taking time off to travel and explore.
