Why I Joined the GLGC:

My time abroad left a lasting impact on my life. I went to a small town in the south of France. Entering this program with no previous French language ability, challenged my ability to adapt. Taking six hours of French a week helped me improve my communication skills as well as the support from my host mother. As my time spend in Aix grew longer my language skills improved and my relationship with my host mother blossomed. I turned to her for everything as well as her turning to me. I look back fondly to our nights spend on the couch talking and me attempting to translate the TV shows. To this day we continue to remain in contact and update each other with news of our lives. I ended my semester on the Deans List and winning a french communication award, but took away more then just academics, I walked away as a new person. I will not say that my time abroad was perfect, there were days when all I wanted to do was go home. Studying abroad tested my ability to be adventurous, confident, a leader and independent. I believe that I had a mix of all emotions while abroad and would be an amazing resource for students interested in talking to someone either before leaving or after returning.
