Affiliated Program Budget Worksheet

All costs listed below are estimates and are subject to change. Please be sure to check with your program provider to get full financial details before you send a non-refundable deposit to the program. Although actual costs vary from program to program, and according to students' choices and budgets, all students must anticipate these additional costs. A range is given to cover all programs in all places but the actual costs will always be program and location specific. All Gettysburg College, federal, and state financial aid may be used for Affiliated Global Study programs.

Application Fee $_________
Amount: Usually between $20 - $200.
When Paid: When you submit your application.
How Paid: Paid by you with a check or cash.
Program Deposit $_________
Amount: Usually between $250 - $1,500.
When Paid: Upon acceptance to your program - usually within 15 days.
How Paid: Paid by you directly to your Program Sponsor.  A credit for this amount will appear on your Student Account as this fee is covered by the Off-Campus Study Fee for Affiliated Programs.  (The program deposit is non-refundable.)
Gettysburg College Off-Campus Study Fee for Affiliated Programs
$31,500 (2016-2017)
When Paid: In August for Fall programs and in January for Spring programs.
How Paid: This is charged to your Student Account.
Tuition $ included
Program tuition costs are included in the Off-Campus Study Fee for Affiliated Programs payment as above.
Housing $ included
Housing costs (i.e. homestays, residence halls, apartments, as applicable) are included in the Off-Campus Study Fee for Affiliated Programs payment. In some programs there will be a supplemental charge for certain types of housing. Some programs require a damage and/or key deposit, which is not covered by Gettysburg. If your housing is left without damage and your key is returned when you depart, your deposit will be returned to you.
Board $ included
Board costs are included in the Off-Campus Study Fee for Affiliated Programs payment. Gettysburg pays for the equivalent of a “full meal plan” at your program site. If your program does not offer a meal plan or if they offer a partial meal plan, your Student Account will be credited an amount to cover your board costs based on the local cost of living. This amount is not given to you as a check - it is applied to the balance in your student account, so you will need to take money with you to cover board costs.
Support Services $ included

All advising, pre-departure and re-entry orientation, and administrative support while you are abroad are included in the Off-Campus Study Fee for Affiliated Programs payment.

Students studying on Affiliated Programs will also receive support in the credit-transfer process for academic coursework completed while participating in the Affiliated program as a part of the Off-Campus Study Fee for Affiliated Programs, Pre-departure advising and course pre-approval process; Pre-departure programming and materials; Processing of Federal Financial Aid; Pre-departure services through Counseling Services, and the availability of Counseling Services to consult with your global study program if needed; Pre-departure services through Academic Advising, including supplying Individual Education Accommodation Plans (IEAP) for the global study program if needed; Access to Gettysburg email, Moodle and all electronic resources and tools; Access to Gettysburg library’s holdings, its staff, and its research capabilities; Communication with the host program regarding logistical issues and student life matters; Access to Gettysburg College on-line course registration for the semester following the student’s time studying globally; Access to housing placement for the semester following the student’s time studying globally; and Re-Entry programming and materials.

Gettysburg College gives flight credits to students based on the region they are travelling to:

When Paid: Prior to departure.
How Paid: Paid by you. The pre-determined Airfare Allowance Credit will appear on your Student Account after you depart for your program as this fee is covered by the Off-Campus Study Fee for Affiliated Programs, but must be paid by you in advance.

Personal Expenses $_________

This includes day to day living expenses, local transportation, access to fitness facilities and gyms, as well as extended travel not included by the program.

Amount: Varies based on where you will be studying, personal spending habits and your financial situation. Check with past participants and your program sponsor for best estimates.
When Paid: Throughout the global term.
How Paid: You need to take money with you to cover your personal expenses.
Books and Course Related Costs $_________
This amount will vary based on the program and the courses taken by the student. This amount also includes the additional costs for any optional field trips and/or events offered but not paid for by the program.
Health Insurance $_________

All students are required to have health insurance while studying globally. This fee can be waived with proof of coverage.

Amount: Gettysburg Plan is $2183.00 for the 14-15 school year.
When Paid: In August.
How Paid: This is charged to your Student Account. If you send proof that you have health insurance coverage, this fee can be waived.
Medical Evacuation/Repatriation Insurance $_________

Some programs offer similar coverage. Students can waive Gettysburg Medical Evaluation and Repatriation Insurance if the program provides similar coverage. Students must complete the Medical Evacuation/Repatriation Insurance waiver by December 1st for study in the spring and June 1st for study in the fall.

Amount: $216 per semester that you will be abroad.
When Paid: In August for Fall programs and in January for Spring programs.
How Paid: This is charged to your Student Account.
Immunizations and Medications $_________

To find out what immunizations and medications you may need, consult the Traveler's Health section of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.

Amount: Immunizations and medications can cost between $0.00 and $3,000.00.
When Paid: Date of payment can vary but can be paid up to 6 months in advance of departure.
How Paid: Paid by you.
 
Passport/Visa/Photographs $_________
Amount: IA passport costs approximately $150; Visa costs vary by country – some countries do not require a visa so there is no cost, others do require a visa and the amount can vary from $5.00 to $600.00; photographs usually cost around $20.
When Paid: Students must have a passport at least 3 months prior to departure.
How Paid: Paid by you.
