Human Subjects
Research
Gettysburg College is committed to ensuring that all research involving human subjects undertaken under the auspices of the institution (whether by faculty, students, or staff) meets the highest ethical standards for the protection of human subjects. Research involving human subjects will fall into one of two categories, depending on the degree of risk to the subjects: (1) research requiring a full review by Gettysburg College's Institutional Review Board (this category includes all research funded by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Health and Human Services, and other funding agencies with similar restrictions), or (2) research exempt from review by the IRB. Most research undertaken at the College will be exempt from full IRB review, but faculty undertaking or sponsoring any research involving human subjects must contact the Provost's Office to ensure compliance with applicable federal law and with the College procedures designed to ensure that compliance.
