Ethical Review for Research at Gettysburg College

Research involving human subjects | Research involving animals

To ensure compliance with the highest humane, ethical, and scientific standards, faculty undertaking research on vertebrate animals must complete a Vertebrate Animal Use in Research and Teaching form and submit it  to the faculty member's department and/or Gettysburg College's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) for approval before beginning the project.

The IACUC must review the following:

  • all research funded by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Health and Human Services, and other funding agencies with similar restrictions
  • protocols for use of vertebrates in teaching or research which a departmental review finds necessary to forward to the IACUC.
  • protocols that include use of invasive procedures, hazardous substances, pain, stress or euthanasia
