Multimedia Explorations of Ultima Thule: Myth, Man, and Monument in the Medieval North Atlantic
Lead by: The Johnson Chair for Distinguished Teaching in the Humanities:
Christopher Richard Fee,
Associate Professor of English
Imagine visiting standing stone circles, Stone Age villages, and chambered tombs; visualize combing Iron Age settlements and strongholds, striding Celtic forts and Roman temples, and searching Anglo-Saxon, Viking, and Medieval houses, graves, battlegrounds, and hoards. Combining an instructor-compiled digital multimedia archive with student-generated scholarly reports and creative Interactive Fiction (IF) games, The Secret of Otter's Ransom will help users to visit and to learn about some of the most striking archaeological and cultural sites of the Medieval North Atlantic.

2007 - 2008
JCCT Luncheons are held in CUB260, 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. A buffet lunch is provided.
September 25, 2007 - The Arts and the Liberal Arts:
Arts Education at Gettysburg College
Recent years have seen exciting growth in the quality, range, and visibility of the arts at Gettysburg College. Please join our colleagues Buzz Jones (Sunderman Conservatory of Music), Shannon Egan (Schmucker Art Gallery), Jerry Hanson (Theatre Arts), Yan Sun (Visual Arts), and Ken Pool (Leonard Bernstein Center for Learning) as they describe new developments in their programs and discuss the future of arts education at Gettysburg College.
November 29, 2007- JCCT Fellowship Showcase
Each year, the Johnson Center for Creative Teaching awards fellowships that provide a course release or summer stipend in support of creative teaching projects. Will Lane (English), Carrie Nielson and Randy Wilson (Environmental Studies), Kerr Thompson (Spanish), and Dina Lowy (History) are among this year's fellowship recipients. Please join them as they present their innovative teaching projects. You can learn what your colleagues have been doing in the classroom and possibly consider applying for a fellowship yourself (the application deadline for 2008-09 is January 22, 2008).
February 14, 2008 - Pre-professional Advising: Taking advising beyond the
class schedule
The three pre-professional advisers at Gettysburg College, Bennett Bruce, Thomas Jurney, and Kristin Stuempfle will discuss some of the expectations of pre-professional advising, and how, at a liberal arts institution, we have the freedom to focus on skill development rather than content acquisition. In short, while some content acquisition is required for all three fields - business, medicine and law - the response to the question 'what should I major in?' can frequently be the question 'what are you interested in?'
April 22, 2008 - Using Portfolios for Student Reflection
In Summer 2007, The Johnson Center for Creative Teaching awarded stipends - funded by a grant from the Hewlett Foundation - for projects to develop the use of portfolios and reflective practices for student self-assessment. Seven recipients of those awards will share their work in a diverse array of fields. Please join Katherine Mattson (Center for Career Development), Rutherford Platt (Environmental Studies), Kay Etheridge (Biology), Gretchen Natter (Center for Public Service), Jonelle Pool and Divonna Stebick (Education), and Marta Robertson (Sunderman Cons. Of Music) as they describe different and interesting uses of portfolios in support of student learning and reflection
