Mellon Summer Scholars Program (MSS)
Type of Projects Supported:
- Faculty-mentored student research during the summer before student's sophomore, junior, or senior year.
- Preference will be given to projects in the humanities, arts, and social sciences, and to those that are interdisciplinary in nature. Students from science departments which do not have endowed funds for summer research are also eligible.
- The research project must be connected to the student's on-going program of study. It can be the beginning of a senior capstone project, or it can complete a project begun in an earlier course or course cluster.
- Summer scholars receive a stipend of $3500 and their mentors receive a stipend of $1000.
- An additional $500 is available for project-related expenses.
- Mellon Summer Scholars are expected to attend bi-weekly on-campus seminars during the summer program and to participate in group social activities that will be offered with other students who are doing research on campus.
- All supported projects must be compliant with the College's ethical review policies.
Who May Apply:
- Rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors, in partnership with their faculty mentors.
