Guidelines for Summer Course Proposals

Gettysburg College does not have a summer school, nor does it intend to have one. However, proposals may be made to offer courses during the summer if they met the criteria listed below. The deadline for submitting summer course proposals is December 1. The course must fill a curricular need for the relevant department or program. There must be a clear and obvious reason why the course cannot be offered during the regualr academic year.

The course needs to be taught in a concentrated period of time with a definite starting and ending date.

The course will be taught off campus. A strong rationale would have to be provided in order to justify teaching a course on campus.

The course is reviewed by the Off Campus Studies Committee and must be financially feasible. Financial feasibility and course tuition must be determined prior to the listing of advertising of the course.

New courses must meet the standard APPC course approval requirement.

Continuing courses must be reviewed by the Off Campus Studies Committee each year, and when approved, presented to the Registrar for lisitng.

Remember, the deadline for summer course proposas is December 1. Refer questions to Mike Maysilles at mmaysill@gettysburg.edu .
