American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment

The organizers of the event, including Gettysburg College and Lutheran Theological Seminary students and faculty, utilize Gettysburg’s unique historical importance as part of the 350 Day of Climate Action. November, 2009In 2007, Gettysburg College became a charter signatory of the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), joining dozens of other colleges and universities in the attempt of enhanced sustainability.

This pledge, signed by President Janet Morgan Riggs, makes a commitment to becoming carbon neutral in the foreseeable future. By signing this agreement the college promises to create a comprehensive sustainability plan and conduct greenhouse gas emissions inventories for all new buildings, encourage the use of public transportation, purchase EnergyStar appliances, among many more conditions.

Gettysburg College is a charter signatory of the national Presidents Climate Commitment.  Member institutions commit to becoming carbon neutral through a series of directives and benchmarked modifications to both infrastructure and curriculum.
