Energy-conscious infrastructure decisions
Gettysburg College is committed to reducing its energy use.
• We purchase renewable energy contracts. In 2006, fossil fuels accounted for only 53% of our energy, down from 61% in 1996 despite additional buildings and a growing student population.
• We install Energy Star rated appliances in all buildings. Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy that identifies and promotes energy-efficient products to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
• Our high-efficiency Central Energy Plant permits precise management of energy for heating and cooling buildings.
• We have switched to compact fluorescent light bulbs.
