Trash cans increase recycling

Research by a student recycling intern in 2006 determined that providing both trash cans and recycling bins in students' rooms leads to dramatic increases their recycling.

Recycling rose by 47 percent for commingled items and 25 percent for paper.

As a result, Facilities Services is annually increasing the number of receptacles in residential rooms.
